Dispelling Common Cleaning Myths

Myth 1: Bleach Cleans Everything

Bleach disinfects but doesn’t always remove dirt or grease effectively.

Myth 2: Vacuuming Is Enough

Vacuuming only removes surface debris. Deep dirt remains trapped within carpets and upholstery. If left untreated, this can breakdown into the backing of the carpet and soil the carpet fibres. This leads to odours, bacteria and poor hygiene.

Myth 3: DIY Carpet Cleaning Works Just as Well

Store-bought machines will never match the power of professional carpet cleaning equipment and more often than not lead to more damage than benefit. Understanding the type of carpet fibre you have, it’s pH level and type of soiling all inform what presprays are used, what water pressure and tools are used to clean the carpet.

Many store brought shampoos simply dislodge and move around any soiling/dirt in your carpet. To properly clean a carpet, appropriate prep sprays must be applied which can only be purchased by specialised companies such as The Clean Principle. Did you know that your carpet must have a pH level of between 3-7 pH after the cleaning has been completed. This cannot be controlled by store bought cleaning machine.

Myth 4: A Home That Looks Clean Is Hygienic

Hidden bacteria and allergens can still remain on surfaces and soft furnishings. If you were to dismantle you oven, extractor hood or even ceiling vents or even chandeliers you will be shocked by the amount of hidden dirt and dust.
